Editor's Notes: A Day at the Factory

It's slaving at the factory for me, as the new SNEEZE is coming close to its release date. Uhhh... what IS its release date? Let's just say NEXT WEEK. Graciano Lopez Jaena Day was an Iloilo Holiday, and while I was supposed to be out enjoying the holiday, I was stuck here at home working on the finishing touches to the NEW SNEEZE. The Christmas/January 2009 Issue. Yes, THAT IS indeed Viktor of the Underworld movies on the cover of the upcoming SNEEZE magazine (if you already recognize him without us telling you, then you really are a geek). TeaserTeeze lang ni mga bords. We'll also be featuring pix from the Siege Tour Gig and the Grunge vs Reggae Gig. Thanks to Vansen as always for the photos! He's almost become the sort of official photo journalist for the iloilo rock scene. SNEEZE hopes to be around often this time. Thanks to the support many of you give! Merry Christmas lang da sa inyo tanan. See you next week...

Album review:The Fabled City The Nightwatchman (TOM MORELLO)

Being a big fan of the first Nightwatchman album, I was pleasantly surprised by this release. Tom Morello adds more instruments and better guitar work, some interesting backing vocals, and further develops his signature brand of in-touch political folk-rock.

Let me say that I've always been a huge fan of Rage Against the Machine, specifically, because of the power of their political message. I was not a huge fan of Audioslave since it was somewhat lacking on this level. But recently, I've been really blown away by both of the new efforts put out by Tom Morello and Zack de la Rocha. Tom Morello especially seems to be at a creative high-point in his career, and this album proves his ability to work with a variety of musical styles.

This album will certainly not appeal to everyone. However, I feel there is more a need than ever to have music that speaks to the conditions people are facing all over the world. High points on the album like "Whatever it takes", "The Lights Are On in Spidertown", "Saint Isabelle", "The Iron Wheel", and "Rise to Power" will hopefully provide fuel to the oppressed and those active in movement work.

Keep 'em coming, Tom! We need more musicians like you!

Jello Biafra's Open Letter to Barack Obama

Dear Mr. Obama,

Congratulations on your recent victory, and for helping build such a strong mandate for change. In that spirit, please do not forget the other aisle you need to reach across. All the relief and publicity for the middle class won't do anything for the 40-100 million Americans who are starving, unemployed or just plain poor.

You have gone out of your way to build a bridge to those of us fed up with war, pollution, inequality, corporate lawlessness and business as usual. You have energized a whole new generation who is far ahead of their elders in knowing what urgently needs to be done. I have never seen such an outpouring of heartfelt emotion, hope and support for an American politician in my life, and I remember Kennedy well. You are the first president in my lifetime to have a bona fide grassroots movement behind you and ready to rock. I hope those crowds' hope and urgency has penetrated deeply enough that you won't let that bridge be washed away.

I remember another person who had the audacity to exploit and toss aside people's hope, and his name is Bill Clinton. Democrats fail time and again when they shirk responsibility and settle for being dealmakers instead of leaders. As important as it is to find common ground and build consensus for change, our situation is so dire we cannot afford any more dealmakers. The people voted for a leader. Anything less risks breaking the hearts of an entire galvanized generation who may then decide it is not worth it to get involved and participate any more.

One Step Closer to the Amero: Threat of a North American Union

It was just announced on Friday, 5 December 2008, that a summit of Central American leaders “agreed to adopt a common regional currency and passport, among other measures to bolster regional integration in the face of global financial uncertainty.” ...

Many regions have already agreed and implemented plans to create regional currencies, in the process taking power away from local communities. The blueprints for the consolidation of power through single currencies have already been introduced for Asia, South America, the Middle East, and North America ...

It is extremely important to remember that the oligarchy will continually use propaganda through mainstream media to create fear among the populace regarding the necessity to “‘standardize laws’ in the immigration, education and security sectors” of the merging countries, due to the unforeseen collapse of the global economy. This, however, will be a lie.

It's Official: Men Really Are the Weaker Sex

Evolution is being distorted by pollution, which damages genitals and the ability to father offspring, says new study. Geoffrey Lean reports.

The male gender is in danger, with incalculable consequences for both humans and wildlife, startling scientific research from around the world reveals.

The research — to be detailed tomorrow in the most comprehensive report yet published — shows that a host of common chemicals is feminising males of every class of vertebrate animals, from fish to mammals, including people.

Backed by some of the world's leading scientists, who say that it "waves a red flag" for humanity and shows that evolution itself is being disrupted, the report comes out at a particularly sensitive time for ministers. On Wednesday, Britain will lead opposition to proposed new European controls on pesticides, many of which have been found to have "gender-bending" effects.

It also follows hard on the heels of new American research which shows that baby boys born to women exposed to widespread chemicals in pregnancy are born with smaller penises and feminised genitals.

"This research shows that the basic male tool kit is under threat," says Gwynne Lyons, a former government adviser on the health effects of chemicals, who wrote the report.

Wildlife and people have been exposed to more than 100,000 new chemicals in recent years, and the European Commission has admitted that 99 per cent of them are not adequately regulated. There is not even proper safety information on 85 per cent of them.

Many have been identified as "endocrine disrupters" – or gender-benders – because they interfere with hormones. These include phthalates, used in food wrapping, cosmetics and baby powders among other applications; flame retardants in furniture and electrical goods; PCBs, a now banned group of substances still widespread in food and the environment; and many pesticides.

The report – published by the charity CHEMTrust and drawing on more than 250 scientific studies from around the world – concentrates mainly on wildlife, identifying effects in species ranging from the polar bears of the Arctic to the eland of the South African plains, and from whales in the depths of the oceans to high-flying falcons and eagles.

It concludes: "Males of species from each of the main classes of vertebrate animals (including bony fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals) have been affected by chemicals in the environment.

"Feminisation of the males of numerous vertebrate species is now a widespread occurrence. All vertebrates have similar sex hormone receptors, which have been conserved in evolution. Therefore, observations in one species may serve to highlight pollution issues of concern for other vertebrates, including humans."

Fast Food Empire Marches On

Burger King's latest campaign, "Whopper Virgins" (by ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky) aims to determine the winner in the Whopper vs. Big Mac battle by taking both burgers to remote places around the world — such as areas in Thailand, Romania, and Greenland — and conducting tastes tests with people who don't "even have a word for burger."

Backlash against the Whopper Virgins documentary is pervasive. In the Daily News, Marilyn Borchardt, development director for Food First, calls the campaign "insensitive" and points out, "The ad's not even acknowledging that there's even hunger in any of these places." Dunca Riley of the Inquisitr also finds the campaign offensive, while Brian Morrissey of AdFreaks says it's "embarrassing and emblematic of how ignorant Americans still seem to the rest of the world."

Watch some teaser clips of the "documentary":

WHOAA... DOwnload It NOW..

How To Turn Amazon.com Into A Free Download Site

A new Firefox extension called Pirates of the Amazon lets users download movies, games, TV shows, and MP3s free of charge by cross referencing Amazon's product pages with torrent files from the Pirate Bay.

If the content can be found on the Pirate Bay's search index it shows up as a "Download 4 Free" link on the top of the Amazon product page. This links directly to the hosted .torrent tracker file, letting the user avoid having to make a purchase from Amazon in place of acquiring it illegally via BitTorrent.

The extension developer's site, along with the link to download the software is currently offline. The extension made the front page of Digg a few hours ago, which is likely what took the site out (not legal intervention). I've contacted Amazon to see if the company is making any efforts to block the extension but have not heard back yet. As it stands, the extension still works, albeit without the "Download 4 Free" thumbnail, which is hosted on the developer's servers.
